Half-day tour (3-5 hours)
English, Espanol, Francais
The tour to the mangroves in Cartagena is a unique experience in which you will be immersed in the forests, the lagoon, the animals, and more than 400 years of artisanal fishing tradition.
On this tour you will navigate in an artisanal canoe through the natural tunnels that the mangroves have formed for thousands of years and that today serve as bridges for animals like the raccoon to cross from one island to the other.
Through these tunnels we will also be able to appreciate the three types of mangrove trees that grow in this mangrove forest in Cartagena, which are: The black, the Red, and the Gray mangroves. In addition, you will receive instruction on how these trees survive in salt water and also on the importance of this ecosystem for the animals that live there, the birds that migrate, and for the regulation of our ecosystem in Cartagena and around the world.
You can also do bird watching in their wild state, where you can see birds such as: White Heron, Great Egret, Black-bellied Plover, Spotted Wagtail, Solitary Sandpiper, Amazon Kingfisher, Cormorant, Frigate Bird, Pelicans, among others.
In addition, you will be able to interact with the community of the mouthpiece, who for more than four centuries have been the guardians of this sanctuary and have perfected the art of artisanal fishing.
Finally, you will take some artisanal fishing classes, where you will test your skills and strength when using a net that weighs more than 10kg to cast it and try to catch something.
