An Aguazul Beach Resort day pass is for travelers who want the turquoise water of the Rosario Islands without the crowds. Hotel Aguazul is a small boutique resort on Isla Barú, about an hour by boat from Cartagena, with 300 meters of white sand beach set apart from the busy public beaches and the vendors that come with them. The water is clear and shallow, the beach is lined with palm trees, and mangroves and coral reefs sit just offshore.

Your day pass includes the round-trip boat from Cartagena, a buffet lunch and full use of the hotel’s public areas: the freshwater pool, sun loungers, lounge chairs, hammocks, the massage area, bathrooms and the beach itself. It is a calm, comfortable plan that suits couples, families and anyone who prefers a hotel setting to a party club.

What your day looks like

Meet in the morning at the La Bodeguita tourist dock, in front of the Clock Tower in the Walled City. The dock tax and the mandatory insurance are set by the authorities and are paid in cash, in Colombian pesos, before you board. The boat ride to Barú takes about 60 minutes across the bay and along the coast.

At Aguazul you settle in for the day. Swim in the calm sea, float in the freshwater pool with a drink from the bar, or claim a hammock under the palms. Lunch is a buffet of Caribbean flavors: fish with salad, hot or cold vegetables, coconut or white rice, fried plantains, a typical regional dessert and a non-alcoholic drink. Drinks from the bar and massages are paid at the hotel. In the afternoon the boat takes you back to Cartagena; return times depend on the weather and on Port Authority clearance.

Activities you can add

The hotel offers a few experiences that make the day even fuller. A guided snorkeling outing takes you to the reefs of the Corales del Rosario National Natural Park, and the aviary tour visits the National Aviary of Colombia, home to more than 170 species of birds. Both have a minimum of two people and are paid in addition to the day pass, so ask us on WhatsApp if you would like to add one. You can also read more about the birds in our National Aviary of Colombia tour.

Good to know

Aguazul is a quiet resort, so outside food and drinks, speakers and DJs are not allowed. Bring cash in Colombian pesos for the dock tax and any extras. If you are traveling with children aged 4 to 9, write to us before booking and we will confirm the child rate for your date.

Who it suits best

Couples looking for a romantic, low-key beach day love the space and the pool. Families appreciate the calm water, the shade and having bathrooms and loungers taken care of. Travelers who have already seen Playa Blanca and want the same white sand without the crowds will find exactly that here.

Hotel transfers to the dock are not included, but we can arrange a private transfer if you ask on WhatsApp.

If you like hotel-style day passes, also look at Sabai Beach Barú, another quiet private beach on Barú, or Hotel Rosario de Mar.
